Cardiac perforation by a pacemaker is a rare but potentially fatal complication. The reported rate of occurrence is 0.1-3%. Acute perforations occurring within twenty-four hours of insertion of a pacemaker, it can lead to hemopericardium, cardiac tamponade, and death. Within one month are subacute while perforations which occur after one month are chronic. Pacemaker perforations may occur through the walls of the large veins, atria, or ventricles. The most accurate study to identify and determine the tip's location has been demostrated to be computed tomography.
