PRESENTED ON: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 01:30 PM - 02:30 PM

PURPOSE: A patient presented to the Emergency Department with an arterial pH (pHa) of 7.14, and an oxygen saturation (SaO2) of 80.6%, obtained by means of a Point-of-Care analyzer (i-STAT®; Abbott Laboratories, Princeton, NJ). The oxygen saturation readout (SpO2) from a pulse oximeter (Radical-7®; Masimo, Inc., Irvine, CA) interfaced to the patient displayed a stable saturation of 85%, however.
