INTRODUCTION: Central venous catheter complications are numerous, but cardiac tamponade is rare, poorly recognized, and associated with a high mortality. Most documented cases are due to improper catheter tip placement. We report a patient whose death was caused by cardiac tamponade most likely secondary to a J-tipped guidewire perforation.
