SESSION TITLE: Education, Research, and Quality Improvement II
SESSION TYPE: Original Investigation Poster
PRESENTED ON: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 01:30 PM - 02:30 PM
PURPOSE: To evaluate the impact of a quality improvement initiative on the process of care and outcomes of patients requiring non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
METHODS: We collected data on the process of care and outcomes before and after a multidisciplinary quality improvement initiative. The latter consisted in a protocol coupled with education of housestaff and respiratory therapists. Process of care data included obtainment of arterial blood gas (ABG) prior to initiation of NIV, time obtainment of ABG after initiation of NIV, and proportion of patients admitted to ICU in those with pH < 7.2. We compared process of care and outcomes data in the period before with the period after implementation of the quality improvement initiative
