INTRODUCTION: Human metapneumovirus is an emerging cause of upper and lower respiratory tract illness in children, elderly adults and immunocompromised hosts. Since its initial isolation from the nasopharynx of children in 2001, there have been gaps in our understanding of its clinical features due to limited studies in human subjects. We report an outbreak of serologically confirmed MPV infection at a regional hospital, causing severe respiratory failure and ARDS.
