SESSION TITLE: Pneumonia Diagnosis and Outcomes

SESSION TYPE: Original Investigation Slide

PRESENTED ON: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 02:45 PM - 04:15 PM

PURPOSE: Despite the epidemic of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in many areas, surprisingly little is known about the natural history of MRSA-colonized individuals. This is of particular importance as active detection and isolation of patients with MRSA colonization has emerged as one of the most controversial concepts in health care epidemiology. Accordingly, this study was undertaken to better delineate the duration of MRSA carriage and the likelihood of developing MRSA pneumonia in colonized individuals.
