The authors have reported to CHEST that data errors appear in the text in “The Presence of Diffuse Alveolar Damage on Open Lung Biopsy Is Associated With Mortality in Patients With Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” (Chest 2016; 149(5):1155-1164).

The correct number of patients with diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) reported in reference 25 is two, the number of deaths in patients without DAD in reference 24 is 16, the number of males with DAD in reference 29 is five, and age was reported in reference 27. These corrections do not change the pooled OR for death when DAD is present on biopsy (meta-OR for mortality 1.81 (95% CI, 1.14-2.86), but do result in minor changes in the meta proportion of DAD from 0.49 (95% CI, 0.44-0.55) to 0.48 (95% CI, 0.42-0.53), the meta difference in sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) when ARDS was diagnosed from 0.26 (−0.3 to 1.04) to 0.22 (95% CI, −0.67 to 1.10), the meta difference in Pao2/Fio2 ratio when ARDS was diagnosed from 4.36 (95% CI, −10.01 to 18.73) to 3.64 (95% CI, 10.69 to 17.97) and when open lung biopsy (OLB) was performed from −8.63 (95% CI, −23.82 to 6.56) to −13.11 (95% CI, −28.17 to 1.94), the meta mean difference age from −4.66 (−8.46 to −0.86) to 0.87(95% CI, −2.56 to 4.30), and the meta difference in sex from 0.60 (95% CI, 0.36-1.00) to 0.58 (95% CI, 0.35-0.97). The corrections do not change the conclusion that ARDS with DAD is associated with higher mortality than ARDS without DAD.
