Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Gene Mutation in Pulmonary Adenocarcinoma Patients in Inner Mongolia FREE TO VIEW

PURPOSE: To investigate mutations of gene epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in pulmonary adenocarcinoma patients who were in Inner Mongolia.

METHODS: 28 cases of NSCLC tissue were enrolled in this study. Mutations of EGFR exons18, 19, 20 and 21 were detected by amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS). The relation between EGFR mutation and clinical characters were analyzed, and they were compared with the reported data from other ten domestic regions.

RESULTS: Mutations were found in 49 cases, with an incidence of 38.28% which was similar to other ten domestic regions (37.70%, P<0.05). Each of exon 18, 19, 20 and 21 accounted for 10% (5/49), 46.94 (23/49), 8% (4/49) and 8.78 (19/49) of total. In which, 1 case mutation both in exton 18,21 and 1 case mutation both in exton 19,21 (2%,1/49); Mutation rate in female (65.52%) was significantly higher than that in male (15.94%) (P<0.05) and in non-smokers (60.31%) than that smokers (16.92%) (P<0.05), in<60-year-old (52.00%) than that in ≥60-year-old Mutation rate in age (57.7%) (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONS: Incidence of EGFR mutation in pulmonary adenocarcinoma patients in Inner Mongolia is similar to that in other regions of China. Mutations in exons 19 and 21 are more common. The EGFR mutations were more commonly found in female, age<60-year-old and non-smoking patients.

CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: It can provide reference to individual targeted anticancer therapy in the area.
