Abnormal Expression of Calponin, Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, and Interleukin 17 in Airway Vascular Smooth Muscle of Rat Asthma Mode FREE TO VIEW

PURPOSE: The study was to explore the effect of Calponin, VEGF and IL-17 in asthma pathogenesis.

METHODS: This study employed a rat model of asthma by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin and aluminum hydroxide. Tidal volume, airway pressure, airway resistance, and bronchial smooth muscle layer thickness were evaluated for model verification. Histological, immunohistochemical, and western blot analyses were performed to determine the expressions of calponin, VEGF and IL-17 on rat smooth muscle cells.

RESULTS: The results showed that the animal model of asthma was successfully established, and the calponin expression was significantly inhibited and the VEGF and IL-17 expressions increased in both acute asthma and chronic asthma rats.

CONCLUSIONS: Calponin, VEGF and IL-17 play an important role in the development of asthma.

CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: This is the first report regarding the abnormal calponin expression in asthma model, providing a new clue for understanding of the asthma pathogenesis.
