A chorus of crickets
all buzzing in anger
sound louder than thunder,
more relentless than tides.
A chorus of crickets,
if paid full attention,
can drive me insane.
Yet a man’s dusky snore,
a baby’s scarlet wail
or a poem slipping prettily into place
will silence the crickets
and make them disappear.
