A 44-year-old, black Jehovah’s Witness presented to the emergency department after a syncopal episode with a history of vaginal bleeding. She had known uterine fibroid tumors. Her medical history was significant for multiple sclerosis and bilateral lower-extremity deep-venous thrombosis treated with an inferior vena cava filter and chronic warfarin therapy.
