Liesching and colleagues, in this month’s issue of CHEST (see page 699), have nicely reviewed the acute applications of noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation (NPPV). This is neither the first review of this type, nor is NPPV a particularly new manner of delivering positive-pressure therapy. So what is of interest here?
