Abstract

The article by Claman and co-authors (CHEST 1996; 110:1581-88) was published without the following corrections from the authors (underlined material is material to be inserted):

Drs. Claman and Stiller are both Fellows of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCPs). Dr. Sanders is also affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (University Drive Division), Pittsburgh, Pa. Reprint requests should be sent to Mark H. Sanders, MD, FCCP, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, 440 Scaife Hall, 3550 Terrace St, Pittsburgh, PA 15261.

On page 1582, right column, 7th line from bottom, a typographical error should be corrected to read: "therapeutic."

On page 1583, left column, 1st and 2nd lines under "COPD" should read: "In contrast to the literature describing the benefits of chronic nocturnal noninvasive positive pressure ventilatory...."

On page 1585, left column, last line before new section, add: "Substantial alkalemia should be avoided."

On page 1586, line 4 under heading "Protocol for Nocturnal Ventilatory Assistance" a typographical error should be corrected to read: "arrhythmia" (singular).

In Table 1 (page 1582) last line: the term "Inadequate caregiver ..." should be replaced with "Inadequate supportive care...."

Table 2 (page 1582) should be titled "Modes of Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilatory Assistance."

Reference 4 (page 1586) should read:"Gay P, Westbrook P, Daube J, et al. Effects of alterations in pulmonary function and sleep variables in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Mayo Clin Proc 1991; 66:686-94."

Reference 30 (page 1587) should read: "Leger P, Jennequin J, Gerard M, et al. Home positive pressure ventilation via mask for patients with neuromuscular weakness or restrictive lung or chest-wall disease. Respir Care 1989; 34:73-9."

Reference 43 (page 1587) should read: "Bach JR. Misconceptions about nasal ventilation. Lancet 1994; 105:445-8."
